Many everyday objects can be hazardous. If you are in doubt, ask your check-in agent what is allowed on board and in your baggage.
Federal law forbids the carriage of hazardous materials on board the aircraft in your baggage or on the person. Information on security restrictions for baggage when traveling from the U.S. may be found on the U.S. Transportation Security website (TSA) website.
Explosives. Fireworks, signal flares, firecrackers, sparklers, safety fuses or other explosives.
Dry ice, gasoline powered tools, camping equipment with fuel, wet cell batteries, oxidizers, corrosives, radioactive materials (including pharmaceuticals), poisons, infectious substances, chain saws, life rafts or internal combustion engines.
Asbestos, arsenic, battery acid, mercury, sulfuric acid, bacteria, viruses, vaccines, cyanide, insecticides, weed killers, medical or clinical waste, radioactive nuclides or isotopes for medical or industrial purposes.
There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your baggage and certain smoking materials carried on your person.
A violation can result in five years imprisonment and penalties of $250.000 or more.
